Production on Edward Zwick’s upcomming epic The Great Wall has been put on hold by Legendary Pictures. The big-budget film was due to start production this Fall, but Deadline has announced a postponement until next Spring.
Only a few days ago, Legendary Pictures cast the Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter star Benjamin Walker to play alongside Henry Cavill as the lead role. It is also rumored that Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon will play a part, despite recent sex allegations involving Chinese officials.
The reason for postponing production is said to be related to weather. Filming is set to take place in both China and New Zealand, with both countries having different seasons. It is currently winter in New Zealand, whereas winter in China won’t occur until later in the year. It is likely the postponement is designed to keep filming within budget.
